Lt. Governor Becky Skillman announced Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) have been awarded to 50 small businesses, health care facilities, institutions for higher education, and non profit agencies for energy efficiency upgrades to their facilities. A total of $2.85 million was awarded for energy efficiency upgrades to existing structures.
“Sometimes the cost of energy efficiency can seem too much for smaller companies, health care facilities, colleges, and universities or non profit agencies already struggling in these economic times, “said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman. “These grants can be a bridge from short term financial issues to important long term energy savings.”
Southside received a grant to replace the existing HVAC system in two of the buildings on site as well as install a new HVAC system in the Main Shelter which includes air conditioning. This will help keep the pets in our care healthier and happier as well as lowering our energy costs. "I can't wait to see our utility bills!" The savings from our new energy efficient system will go to direct animal care which equates to more lives saved.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, funded for the first time by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) of 2009, represents a Presidential priority to deploy the cheapest, cleanest, and most reliable energy technologies we have—energy efficiency and conservation—across the country. We'd like to say thanks to everyone at the Indiana Office of Energy and Development, IWM Consulting Group and Brewer Mechanical Services for helping us obtain the grant and install the equipment.
