This is Jewel. Jewel had been with Southside Animal Shelter since May of 2007. She came to us after her owner had passed away and it was discovered she was heartworm positive. Because of our many supporters and donors Jewel was treated for heartworm and put up for adoption and because of her sweet quiet personality she was soon adopted. Unfortunately for Jewel she was not in her new home for long when her hip dislocated, the shelter was contacted and she was seen by one of the vets that work with our shelter to help ensure that our pets receive the medical care and treatment they need. It was determined that she would need orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation, so she was returned to the shelter. Again our donors reached out to help Jewel find her forever home and through donations she received her surgery, rehabilitation and some much needed dental work. But this sweet little girl couldn’t quite catch a break and her test came back heartworm positive again, it’s rare that she would have a reoccurrence after receiving treatment but sometimes with a severe infestation it happens. Southside Animal Shelter again reached out to our donors and they responded. Jewel has been in foster care to adopt and has now been adopted. Her new family understands all she has been through and has promised to keep her and make sure she receives everything she needs and Jewel has finally found her forever home.
Thank you everyone who donated to Southside Animal Shelter to help give Jewel the medical care and time she needed. We would not have been able to rescue Jewel if you were not there to support us every step of the way.
