Stuart's Happy Tail
We once had this wonderful dog named Sam.......

He was a rescue dog and we got him as a puppy.  Sam was a "Golden-German-Collie" and did all three of his mixed breeds proud.  Sam and I took training to become a Therapy Team and he was wonderful.  Sam lived a full life and when he was gone we were devastated.

About a year after Sam died, I was driving west on Edgewood Avenue.  As I approached Southside Animal Shelter I unexpectedly turned into the driveway. A lady met me as I was exiting my car and asked if she could help me.  I told her I was I was interested in a dog. She asked me some questions like; did I have a fenced yard and several others.

She didn't seem impressed with my answers and turned to walk away.  I showed her my I. D. tag that I was required to wear when Sam and I visited nursing homes and told her, "I'm looking for a dog that I can do this with".  She looked at the I. D. Tag and asked me if I was a "Pet Partner".  I told her I was but I didn't have a partner.

She didn't miss a beat. She said to me, "You need to meet Stuart".  I followed her to an outside kennel and there was Stuart.  The introductions were made and Stuart and I began to get to know each other.

I was told that Stuart was found attached to a gutted out washing machine near Linton, Indiana.  The local county animal control rescued him and at some point Southside Animal Shelter brought him to their facility.  He then was sent to be neutered.  Upon his return he chewed on his stitches and had to return to the clinic.

I went home, got my wife and returned to the shelter and introduced her to Stuart.  About an hour later Stuart climbed into our car and came home with us. He has been with us about 3 years now.

Early this year, Stuart and I began our training to become a Therapy Team.  He did wonderful.  He passed with flying colors and is a Registered Therapy Dog.  We are visiting Manor Care Nursing Home and may start with another nursing home and do a reading program with some elementary school students.

We are so very proud of Stuart and I tell him often that Sam would also have been proud of him.

We now have a wonderful dog named Stuart...........
