DO YOU LOVE CATS AND DOGS? IF SO WE / THEY NEED YOU!
Volunteers do everything related to helping the shelter staff care for the animals. Whether you choose to work directly with animals or help out with special projects, there is room for you at Southside Animal Shelter.
DOG WALKERS Our dogs have outdoor runs and inside kennels, along with fenced yards for play time. They love to take walks and have that one on one time. A walker provides each dog The opportunity to get out and stretch their legs, play and feel special. Walkers may volunteer after 1pm each day. By donating even a half hour once or twice a week, you can help make the stay of a shelter dog more enjoyable until a new home for him or her can be found. For safety reasons, walkers must be at least 16 years old. You must completed a volunteer application before starting to volunteer.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS: You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer at the shelter. A volunteer liability release must be completed by all volunteers. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent must accompany you on your first visit and complete a parental release
I am sorry but we are unable to accomodate groups of volunteers or parents with children.
Foster Parent This position involves caring for one or more of our cats or dogs in your home when they cannot be in a Shelter. Examples of animals needing foster care are pregnant mothers, animals undergoing medical procedure such as heartworm, puppies and kittens to young to be adopted or animals to stressed to stay at the shelter. Once animals are ready for adoption they will be brought back to the shelter or adopted from the foster home. Southside Animal Shelter will supply food and any medical care needed while in foster care. If you love animals and want one of the most rewarding jobs we have, then this is the job for you. There are certain requirements prior to being approved as a Foster Parent, including completing a Foster Parent Application and interview.
ANIMAL TRANSPORTER Drivers are need to take animals to the vet, pick animals up from the vet, transport to adoption events. We have kitties at the Greenwood, Castleton, Cherry Tree, and Avon PetSmart stores for adoption. When a cage is empty we need it filled, the quicker the better. If you would like to be on the transport team please let us know by emailing rosie@ssasi.org. We will call on an as needed basis.
ADOPTION EVENTS We attend many adoption events all over the city. We take as many dogs and cats as we can depending on the number of volunteers who sign up. Help is needed transporting animals, walking dogs, talking to people, and assisting with adoptions. Events are always busy, always fun and always rewarding. To be added to the list to be notified of events email kathyable@live.com
Fundraising Southside Animal Shelter is always in need of more funding and we run several fun and revenue-producing events throughout the year (with which you can help in various ways, too!). But we know that these events do not appeal to everyone who might want to support our vital services. How would you put the “fun” into fundraising? Work with us to experiment with an event you would attend and see if you can challenge the amount of income produced now.
Adoption Outreach We are invited to PetSmart on Saturday's to host animals for adoption. Volunteers are need to help transport and/or work with the animals.
ADOPTION APPLICATION CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE SHELTER OR COMPLETED ON LINE. We look forward to your help!
